Are bio-based and biodegradable microplastics impacting for blue mussel (Mytilus edulis)?

چکیده
The substitution of petrochemical plastics by bio-based and biodegradable are in need an evaluation for the potential toxic impacts that they can have on marine wildlife. This study aims to assess toxicological effects polylactic acid microparticles at two concentrations, 10 100 ?g/L, during 8 days blue mussel, Mytilus edulis. No significant oxidative stress (catalase, glutathione-S-transferase superoxide dismutase activities), neurotoxicity (acetylcholinesterase), or immunotoxicity (lysosomal membrane stability phosphatase activity) were detectable. multivariate analysis metabolomic data allowed us differentiate individuals according exposure. From loading plot OPLS-DA, 48 ions down-regulated exposed microplastics. They identified based HRMS as glycerophospholipids.

AFLP-based genetic linkage maps of the blue mussel (Mytilus edulis).
We report the construction of the first genetic linkage map in the blue mussel, Mytilus edulis. AFLP markers were used in 86 full-sib progeny from a controlled pair mating, applying a double pseudo-test cross strategy. Thirty-six primer pairs generated 2354 peaks, of which 791 (33.6%) were polymorphic in the mapping family. Among those, 341 segregated through the female parent, 296 through the ...

متن کاملA novel mitochondrial genome organization for the blue mussel, Mytilus edulis.
The sequence of 13.9 kilobases (kb) of the 17.1-kb mitochondrial genome of Mytilus edulis has been determined, and the arrangement of all genes has been deduced. Mytilus mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) contains 37 genes, all of which are transcribed from the same DNA strand. The gene content of Mytilus is typically metazoan in that it includes genes for large and small ribosomal RNAs, for a complete ...
متن کاملGill Development and its functional and evolutionary implications in the blue mussel Mytilus edulis (Bivalvia: Mytilidae).
Study of gill development in bivalve larvae and postlarvae provides information on the evolution of this organ and feeding mechanisms of early stages. Scanning electron microscopy was used to document the development of the filibranch homorhabdic gill in hatchery-reared larval, postlarval, and juvenile Mytilus edulis. Four key stages were identified during gill development: (1) transfer of the ...

Adult Mytilus edulis were exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations of 17β-estradiol in seawater for 10 days. Exposure was performed to assess effects on vitellogenin mRNA expression during early gametogenesis stages. The results show an increase in VTG expression, in contrast with previous experiments where no statistically significant change in the expression of VTG in ripe mussels w...
